Every Thursday morning at 7 AM EST, Christian Girls Rock Network, where the visionary is Minister Takenya Millhouse, hosts a prayer call. Each week a different minister will deliver a brief word of exhortation and lead us in prayer. For the past few weeks the theme has been Success is no Accident, so the exhortations have been centered on success. Evangelist Kimberly Cabbagestalk, visionary of Empowered Life Changers Ministries, ministered the word today, and she referenced Kobe Bryant’s announcement that this was his last season playing basketball. As we all know, Kobe has had a very successful basketball career, so it’s no surprise that we can glean some nuggets from him, on being successful. I just wanted to share what resonated in my spirit (at the end I’ve included the link to the playback so you can get the full message), since the Lord has been dealing with me on these areas.
First, if we are going to be successful, we have to be intentional throughout the entire process. Kobe desired to be as successful, if not surpass the success of Michael Jordan. He was intentional in meeting this goal, from the schools he attended, the amount of practice he put in, to even being on the same team for his entire twenty plus years career. Just as he was intentional about being successful, he was just as intentional about how and when to end his success. When interviewed about his decision, he stated that this was his last season because he knew he “didn’t want to do this anymore”, and that he had be planning this for a while. This says that he didn’t allow any outside interference to determine his decision on when he would retire. He relied on his inner voice to lead him and made his announcement at the appointed time. This is the second point. In other words he exercised his authority to make this decision. We have to know when it's time to let go. So the take away is that we have to set our face like flint (Isaiah 50:7) and keep our hands to the plow. We have to exercise our God given authority to cancel the negative words that are spoken, so that we may be like sheep, able to hear the voice of the Good Shepherd. And no matter how good or bad, we have to let go when it's time to let go.
So let this be the season for the last season of whatever is holding you back from being all that God has called you to be:
This is the last season to walk in fear!
This is the last season to hear the word and not do the word!
This is the last season to not write that business plan!
This is the last season to harbor unforgiveness!
Those are just a few, but ask the Lord to show you what needs to have its last season.
